HI. Back with further updates after submission week
Starting from this blog onwards, I will be updating my progress on the project during my semester break. This blog will be the first blog update during my semester break, where I will slowly start working on the different aspects of the project.
I will start by laying down the latest feedback that I've gotten from the latest sharing with the industry guest, and also my thoughts on it.
1. Don’t randomize, too hard for users, let them have options to choose
- I agree with this feedback, however, I do not think adding in a quiz to personalized content to them is part of the goals of my microsite. Since I wanted users to explore and discover places on their own, I decided to let them access the navigation page right from the start. This way, users will be given the choice of selecting a state that they are interested in exploring.
2. Bird eye view for the states for users to see all categories
- This is a useful suggestion that I've been thinking of adding, and it totally make sense especially when the users are no longer first-timer. Allowing them to quickly scanned through the available content of each state will be convenient for users that are non-first timers.
3. Pop up in the middle of the experience, let them filter out their options
- Filtering functions popping up in the middle of the experience is not really what I wanna be delivering, so instead of popping up randomly, I decided to add the filtering options at the overview idea where they could quickly scanned through the available places and also filter out the places too.
4. Hooking up the audience — email/phone number, add forecast weather/what to bring?
- I think this idea is great to engage with the users, however, I feel like this could be ponder later on, right now I will be focusing on the on-going experience, the post-experience will be something that I would like to worry later
5. Add-ons tour guide service or other services
- As for the suggestion of adding in additional services, I feel like this could be tie-in with the previous feedback where we could engage the users by recommending additional services via email as part of the post-experience after they have undergo the full experience in the microsite.
Since this is the first week of my semester break, I didn't want to push myself too hard by spending too much time on the project. I decided to start things slow by analyzing the latest feedback that I have gotten from the industry guest and try working on it first.
Ideas addressing feedback
Overview function
Decided to add an overview function for each state page for users to have an easier access to the places available in specific states. The overview function will be showcasing the list of locations to users through their own categorization and users will be able to interact with it by going through their filters and leading them to the specific category.

"I'm flexible" function
Regarding the feedback gotten, the previous "Anywhere" function was a bit vague for users as it will just randomly deliver a state to users that do not feel comfortable sharing their location. So instead of randomly delivering a state, I decided to allow users to access the navigation page by clicking on the "I'm flexible" function which allows them to freely choose a state to access on their own.
The "I'm flexible" function is inspired by Airbnb, which can be seen in their official website
Redesign scrollbar/scroll indicator
Due to some restricted technicality of executing the previous scroll indicator design, I decided to redesign it into a design that has a higher possibility for me to execute it. My current idea is to make use of the Airbnb color as the indicator, and in addition when the dots are hovered over, it will indicate the places' name and hopefully being able to allow users to click onto it and show them the specific place.
This is so far the changes that were made regarding the latest feedback. Further changes might come up as I progress further into the execution.
