HI. Continuation of my project updates on further refinements and progress
This blog will be mainly showcasing the further progress on my technical aspects and content structure layout.
Planning of content

By using Google Map, I manage to finish identifying all the nearby places for each place with specific distance (km) indication. Some places have other nearby nature places that is in-within a 10km radius, however, in some cases, I have to widen the radius to 20km or even 30km because the nearby nature places are limited.
Content layout progress
As for the content layout, I enlarged the map and combined the 2 information; nearby Airbnb accommodation, and nearby nature places together in one single map. While planning the structure, I revisited the Airbnb website to look for nearby accommodation specifically for Kanching Falls, Rawang.
Issus faced: I realized the accommodation available will be dynamically changing according to their own availability that might be influence due to a few factors; available dates, personal reasons from host, accommodation stop running, etc.
Since the information of the nearby Airbnb accommodation might be different every time users access it, the previous idea of providing the specific price - no. of guest information might not be very effective anymore.
I raised this issue to one of my advisor and the suggestions are:
- I can think of it as a live update of information from the Airbnb site, I might not be able to technically execute the live update out but the design of the layout can be planned according to this idea
- If I am thinking it as a live update of information, I will need to gather information on how the system works
Other feedback:
- the layout right now lack hierarchy, everything is too balance, users might not know where to look at first
My thoughts:
- For the live update of information, I will firstly do some research on the possibility of executing out technically, and gather some background research about information live update
- I will continue with the refinement of my layout, and try tweaking here and there for better ideas on the layout
3D progress
This week's 3D progress is still mainly focusing on setting up the individual assets.
Technical progress
With the help from another advisor, I was able to have the hotspot triggering the camera movement. While triggering the hotspot, I was able to disable and enable different 2D screens too. There are still some camera issues to fix, but I will slowly get into that.
Issues to rethink:
- I tried exporting the UI elements as a sprite sheet, hoping it will have a smoother animation transition. However, I feel like it is not transiting very nicely. My alternative option is to build the UI with plain HTML + CSS. But as I mentioned in my previous blog, there might be some slight performance issue, this is something that I need to experiment on to see which is the more viable execution for the 2D screen.
