Week 15
HI. This is the second update of the week on my progress
This blog will be mainly updating my technical enquiries, content layout, further plans
Technical progress
This week I was mainly focusing on experimenting the application of HTML + CSS for the UI components and the content information. In this video, the content information is being executed in HTML + CSS.
Achieved:
- smooth hovering effects for UI buttons
- content structure and layout
- animation trigger on-scroll (using Intersection Observer API)
Downside:
As it can be seen in the video, the camera movement is lagging. I'm guessing is due to the animations running at the HTML + CSS section. I have yet to discover whether this is my personal device problem or the quality of the performance.
Alongside, I also tried trigger the on-scroll event for the camera movement, however, I still can't get it to work, I might need to consult my advisor.
3D scene progress
I have roughly uploaded the new 3D scene into PlayCanvas and slowly arranging the assets according to the camera view.
The colors are not finalized yet, I have yet to find a color palette reference to apply into my scene. There was another issue while uploading the 3D models, it is taking a lot of space!
As I am a free user in PlayCanvas, the space provided is limited to 1GB only. If I exceed it, I might need to upgrade which is $15 per month. Hopefully, I don't have to spend extra money on this project. I need to find a way to minimize the assets.
Typeface progress
I tried arranging a different layout for the landing page. At the same time, experimenting both 3D and 2D graphics together. This is roughly the idea I have in mind for both of the art style to merge together, I didn't want to overcomplicate the background with 3D elements as there will also be interactive UI buttons at the front.
Feedback: The 3D text does not look 3D right now. The 2D illustrations are overpowering the 3D assets, try prioritizing the 3D assets and make the 2D illustrations as supporting visuals.
That's all for now, in the next blog, I will be like usual updating my progress and project enquiries.
