Week 8

HI. Generating ideas and thoughts of the content deliverance and structuring for brainstorming
Continuation from my previous blog, this blog will be mainly focusing on my ideas and thoughts on the possible content deliverance and structure. I will also share the summarized feedback from my advisors and do some self-reflection at the end.
Before immediately coming up with ideas, I did some reference research on how similar websites deliver their content. I did analysis on different websites that has a similar concept with my microsite, which most of it has a 3D space.
Website references
I categorized their content structure into 3 categories; structural, conversation and 3D interaction
Structural
Deliver the content through a structural form through a 3D space. The specialty of this website is when the late musician's music is playing at the background triggering the visuals together.
Deliver content through a structural way with the use of a 3D map. The specialty of this website is the background narration of a fellow local that grew up and lives in Lewa, Kenya.
This website is not exactly in a 3D space, however, the content are delivered through a structural but interesting way. It is not overly complicated and is visually appealing too.
Conversation
The content of this website is delivered through a conversational way where they have an avatar that brings up different dialogs that talks about the content.
This microsite is executed into a third-person game-like that allows users to interact with the different avatars in the environment to learn about beer-making process through dialogs.
3D interaction
This microsite for Gucci is for users to explore the different products available in their Christmas season. They uses 3D objects as visual representation of the objects for users to interact with in the environment itself.
This educational microsite allows users to interact with the different areas that are visually represented through 3D. This is to educate students about alternative energy resources.

My ideas
(1) Structural ---> (2) Conversation ---> (3) 3D interaction
Structural
I tried executing the content into a more structural way, and through this way, I feel like categorizing the places by districts would be more relevant for users to directly discover the available districts that provide natural environments and the places to visit in-within that district. The focus is for users to: Discover the different districts
However, this might be too location-based where it might encourage users in a different way which is for users to discover natural environment through locations. Which does not really align with my initial idea.
Conversation
I was thinking through conversation, I could provide different characters blending into the environment itself. When users interact with the characters, the different characters will deliver different content such as introduction of the state, specific forest reserve to visit, the natural environments in the state, etc. In the example, I imagine a bird character being in the environment, when users interact with the bird, the camera will zoom into the bird and the content would be delivered through dialogs. The focus is for users to: Discover the different characters
However, users might only get the surface level of information because the characters are acting like a tour guide bringing simple information to the users.
3D interaction
Through this way, I would need to present the 3D objects in a more accurate way. I was thinking to have the different 3D objects blending in with the environment, and users could interact with the different interactive touchpoints to trigger the content. In the example, I imagine the waterfall being in the environment itself, when users trigger it, the camera will zoom into it and will start to introduce the waterfalls that are available in Selangor. The focus is for users to: Discover their personal interest of natural environments
However, to do this, I would need more variations of classifying the natural environments because the 3D objects need to visually represent and deliver content to users.
I presented my ideas to my advisors and also asked a question regarding my concerns:-
Q: Is it better to just deliver few of my information or deliver the information in something more comprehensive? In the user perspective, I am not sure whether it will be too overwhelming for users of there is too much information, but I am also worried that if the information is too less, it does not really meet my project objective; discover and gain appreciation towards local nature
A: To align back with my project goals and objective, delivering the information more comprehensively would be better. Because ultimately, I want users to discover places that are not known to them and encouraging them to visit these places. The information does not necessarily need to be overwhelming, could try sectioning the info out for users to filter them based on their personal preferences.
My thoughts:
I agree with the advisor's opinion on meeting back my project goals and objectives. Ultimately, I want users to discover places that are unknown to them and eventually gain appreciation by visiting these places. I guess if I were to deliver the information in a more comprehensive manner, I would need further analysis and categorizing of the different places to meet users' preferences.
Summarize feedback:
structural content is possible when it is delivered through an interesting way like infographics or minor interactions, don't be too overwhelmed by text
content delivering through 3D interaction is possible and more relevant as a way for users to input their personal preferences and delivering the relevant content to them
try figuring out a more in-depth attributes to classified the places, maybe it will be easier to deliver the contents through the 3D interaction way
try preparing a sitemap after the content deliverance is settle for a better overview of the scope of the microsite
the gamification system could try a direction that is more rewarding like giving out discounts or offers
My thoughts:
I also feel like content with more visuals compared to text would be more viable and interesting to users
I would need to analyze deeper on the different places for each states and really classify them out, I will try doing it based on the different possible preference from users
I have also thought about the gamification system could be something beneficial to the users, I will need more research on how Airbnb gives out discounts/offers
Currently, I am stuck at the content deliverance part. I will need to quickly analyze and have a solid classification for the different attributes of the places. Only then I could start planning the graphical visuals to prepare for my microsite
Further plans:
slowly pick up the technical skills needed to develop the microsite
quickly decide on the content deliverance and plan out the visuals
after finalizing the visuals, I could start crafting the 3D environments
hopefully being able to smoothly go through the design phase while experimenting the technical areas too
Next week (Week9) is exploration week, which means I will not be having any classes. Throughout this week, I will be spending time on a mini-technical workshop that I have planned out for myself to slowly pick up the technical skills required. At the same time, I am going to further progress at the content deliverance part and hopefully by the end of this week, I have a decent amount of knowledge on the technicality and also have visual sketches for the environment.

Hopefully, I am able to stick to the plan and nothing major comes up.
That's all for now, in the next blog, I will be mainly sharing my progress during the exploration week, the different insights or problems that I encounter throughout the week.
