5-1 Reflecting phase

Week 5

HI. Regarding the previous blog, I will be getting reviews and feedback from my advisors on the propose idea.

In this blog, I will be sharing the reviews and feedback from my advisors and sort of do some analysis on them. I will then continue researching on how I could improve my propose idea.

Summary:-

- Execution could be more creative and innovative

- Find a way to curate better content

- Try to deliver the content in a more interesting way

- Q&A concept quite predictable

- Use "Discovery" as an essence for the project

- The title can be more catchy

- Try focusing my direction towards emotion and mood

- Consider geo-location for users

My thoughts:

At this point, there is nothing that I could disagree on. I admit that I don't feel like my project idea is good enough to be engaging with users. I need something that could really catch people's attention. I also feel like my current propose idea is still at the surface, I haven't really think things through yet. I need to find another way of personalization instead of Q&A.

I do feel like the contents could be presented in a more creative and interesting way. I've been trying to compile what are the contents that I could deliver and hopefully I could find a suitable direction to approach the content planning. Maybe I should be focusing on the users' perspective, and see what are the emotion and mood that I could get from them.

After the feedback and review session, I decided to start working on 2 things in particular, which is:-

  1. Find out the emotion and mood that people feel when travelling

  2. The kind of contents that I could get from different ecotourism spots in Malaysia

I went and search up articles to read about emotion and mood that travelers feel when travelling. And stumble upon an article that could summarize my findings.

An article from Hostel World (2018), that talks about the travel emotions people experience on trips.

These are the few emotions that is mentioned in the article, the highlighted ones are the ones that I feel like I could use towards my project; Appreciation, Excitement, Anticipation, Amazement and Joy.

My POV towards the project:-

  1. Feel excited about the journey (Journey)

  2. Curious and amaze towards the ecotourism spots that are offered (Content)

  3. Feel happy/satisfied and appreciate the experience and ecotourism places (Experience)

From here, I could narrow down my thoughts towards 3 main keywords; Journey, Content and Experience. I kept asking myself what, why and how towards these 3 keywords, hopefully to help me clear things up.

1. What kind of journey?

- A interesting journey that allows users to discover and explore around

2. What content to deliver and how?

- Content that are delivered in a fresh and different way to engage with people

3. What experience do I want my users to go through?

- I want users to have a fun, fulfilling and useful experience, something they can take back

After laying out the direction, I started doing research on the possible content that I could work with. I did compilation based on 3 articles about ecotourism spots in Malaysia.

Based on my findings:-

- Malaysia has a wide range of ecotourism spots that cannot be easily categorized into just one single label

- The variation of ecotourism spots ranging from forest, mountains, caves, sea, national reserves/parks

- The different places are famous of their different features, such as the animal species, activities, experience, plant species, scenery, etc.

This is sort of what I laid out for a clearer vision of the possible contents to deliver.

And it is clear that "Species sighting" are in all the locations, and every locations have a different activity that people could participate.

I consider the branched out points from the different locations as the features of the places, and with this, I have an idea of instead of delivering everything a place can offer, why not just deliver the core feature of the places.

From the core feature direction, I will need to further think about the concept that I want to approach and how the different core features of the places can be delivered. I will need a list of content planning examples for a clearer idea.

That's all for now, in the next blog, I will be posting my progress on the refine concept and planning development of this project.

Bye! :)
